1. GKS(한국 정부 장학생)로서의 경험과 이 프로그램을 통해 배운 것에 대해 말씀해 주십시오.

GKS는 한국 내 외국인 유학생을 위한 최고의 장학금입니다. 이 프로그램을 통해 정말 감사했던 일 중 하나는 지금은 평생 친구가 된 다양한 나라의 사람들을 만날 수 있었다는 점입니다. 저는 한국은 물론, 칠레, 콜롬비아, 멕시코, 베네수엘라, 러시아, 미얀마, 튀니지, 인도, 몽골, 캄보디아, 미국, 일본, 과테말라, 중국, 페루, 태국, 터키 사람들을 만나 친구가 될 수 있었습니다. 사실 저는 2005년 중동-아프리카 지역에서 최초로 설립된 카이로의 아인샴스대학교 한국어학과에 입학했을 때 한국어를 배우기 시작했습니다. 그리고 한국어 선생님 중 한 분께서 GKS를 소개해 주셨습니다. 해외에서 정말 공부하고 싶었던 저에게 이런 기회를 얻게 되어 너무 기쁘고 영광스러웠습니다. 저는 대학원에서 제2외국어로서 한국어에 대해 가르치는 과정을 공부하기 위해 한국에서 가장 오래된 사립대학교인 동시에 한국 교육계에서 자랑스러운 역사와 명성을 가지고 있는 연세대학교를 선택했습니다. 저는 한국에 머무는 동안, 외국인을 만날 기회가 적은 아이들을 위해 시골의 지역 아동 센터에서 문화 교실을 하는 등의 봉사 활동을 할 수 있었습니다. 한국은 제 인생의 큰 전환점이 되었으며, 저는 이것을 매우 감사하게 생각합니다.

1. Please share your experience as a GKS scholar and what you have learned from this scholarship program.

GKS is indeed the best scholarship for international students in Korea. One of the things I was truly thankful for was that I was able to meet people from different countries who eventually became lifelong friends. I was able to meet and become friends with people from various countries like Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Venezuela, Russia, Myanmar, Tunisia, India, Mongolia, Cambodia, USA, Japan, Guatemala, China, Peru, Thailand, Turkey, and of course Korea. I actually started learning Korean when I entered the Korean language department at Ain Shams University in Cairo when it was first established in 2005 for the first time in the Middle East-Africa region. One of my Korean teachers was the one that introduced me to GKS. I really wanted to study abroad, so I was very excited and honored to have been given this opportunity. I have chosen Yonsei University, the oldest private university in Korea, to pursue my graduate studies majoring in teaching Korean as a foreign language as it has a proud history and reputation in the Korean education field. During my staying in Korea, I was able to do some volunteering activities which included giving cultural classes in a local children’s center in rural areas to children who have fewer opportunities for meeting foreigners. Korea has been a big turning point in my life and I am very grateful for that.

2. 졸업 후 경험/이야기를 말씀해 주십시오.

저는 2012년 GKS 프로그램으로 석사 학위를 성공적으로 마친 후, 귀국하여 카이로에 있는 한국문화원 세종학당에서 한국어 강사로 일했으며 후에는 코디네이터로 일했습니다. 저는 8년 이상 한국어를 가르쳐왔으며 제가 가장 즐기는 일이 되었습니다. 저는 한국 문화체육관광부에서 발급하는 ‘한국어 교원자격증’ 2급도 취득했습니다. 한국어 교원자격증을 취득하는 방법에는 학위과정과 비 학위과정이 있습니다. 그러나 외국인인 경우에는 TOPIK 6급도 따야 합니다. 저는 가르치기 시작하면서 가르치는 것과 배우는 것이 별개임을 깨달았습니다. 그래서 아랍 학생들에게 한국어에 대해 더 쉽게 가르치는 방법에 관한 다양한 교수법을 읽기 시작했습니다. 그러던 중 부산에 있는 한국해양대학교에서 쿠웨이트 학생들을 가르칠 아랍어가 가능한 교사를 모집한다는 소식을 듣게 되었습니다. 저는 한국에 있는 한국어 교사들과 교류하고 한국어 교수법에 대해 더 배우기 위해 1년 동안 다시 한국에 가기로 했습니다. 저에게는 또 다른 도전이었지만, 저는 한국어 교수법뿐만 아니라 다양한 행정 업무도 배울 수 있었습니다.

2. Please share your experience/story after graduation.

After completing my master's degree successfully with the GKS program in 2012, I returned back home and took a position as a Korean language instructor and later as a coordinator at King Sejong Institute in the Korean Cultural Center in Cairo. I have been teaching Korean more than 8 years and it is one of the things I enjoy doing the most in life. I also obtained the ‘Korean Language Teacher Certificate’ level 2 which is issued by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in Korea. The way to obtain this Korean language teaching certificate is through a degree course and a non-degree course. But if you are a foreigner, you will also be required to qualify for TOPIK level 6. As I began to teach, I realized that teaching and learning were different things. So, I started to read various teaching methods on how to teach Korean language more easily to Arab students. While I was doing that, I heard that Korea Maritime & Ocean University in Busan city in Korea is recruiting Arabic speaking teacher to teach Kuwait students. I decided to go to Korea again for one year to interact with Korean teachers in Korea and learn more about Korean teaching methods. It was another challenge for me, and I was able to learn not only Korean teaching methods but also various administrative tasks.



3. 장래 계획과 GKS 동문에 대한 의견/생각을 자세하게 설명해 주십시오.

저는 현재 이집트 GKS 동문회 회장으로 임명되었으며 저의 주요 역할은 이집트에서 GKS 회원을 확대강화하고, 한국에서의 유학 및 생활에 관한 세미나 개최, 장학금 프로그램을 위한 입문 강의, GKS 온라인 설명회 개최 등 이집트에서 GKS를 홍보하기 위한 다양하고 지속적인 활동을 하는 것입니다. 앞으로도 한국 유학을 희망하는 이집트 학생들에게 유용한 정보를 제공하기 위해 최선을 다할 것입니다. 이 장학금 제도를 통해 양국의 우호를 증진하고 교육 협력을 강화하는 기회가 더 많이 생기기를 바랍니다. 글로벌 장학 프로그램이나 이집트에서의 한국어 학습과 관련하여 질문이 있으시면 언제든지 인스타그램 @dinayehia21로 디엠을 보내주시기를 바랍니다.

3. Please explain in detail your future plan and comments/thoughts for GKS Alumni.

I currently appointed as the president of GKS Alumni Association in Egypt, and my main role is to expand and strengthen the membership of GKS in Egypt andcontinue establishing different activities in promoting GKS in Egypt such as organizing seminars on study and life in Korea, introductory lectures for the scholarship program and GKS online information sessions. I will do my best to provide useful information to aspiring Egyptian students who wish to study in Korea. I hope that through this scholarship, there will be more opportunities to promote friendship between the two countries and to enhance educational cooperation.
