What is the best memory from your GKS life?
One of my best memories from GKS was meeting people from many different countries and building lasting friendships.
My time at Hallym University in Chuncheon was especially meaningful because I could experience Korea, learn from different cultures, and grow both personally and academically.
I was also very fortunate to have a wonderful professor during my master’s degree who became an important mentor and had a strong influence on my academic journey and personal growth.

What challenges did you face when you first came to Korea, and how did you adjust?
What hardships did you face in Korea when you first came here and how did you adjust?
When I first came to Korea, the biggest challenges were the language and cultural differences. Even simple things like going to the bank, visiting a hospital, understanding administrative procedures, or communicating in daily life could be difficult.
The academic environment was also different from what I was used to, and being far away from my family in Peru was another challenge.
I adjusted little by little by learning Korean, observing Korean culture, asking for help when I needed it, and building friendships with both Korean and international students. Over time, I became more independent and comfortable living in Korea.

How has GKS influenced or changed your life?
Do you think coming to Korea was a good decision?
GKS completely changed the direction of my life. I came to Korea for a master’s degree, but it became the starting point of my scientific career and a major turning point for me.
Through GKS, I grew as a researcher, continued to a PhD, built international networks, and became involved in activities connecting Korea with Peru and Latin America.
Korea also helped me grow personally, becoming more independent, adaptable, and open to different cultures. Coming to Korea was one of the most important decisions of my life and helped shape who I am today.

A Message to the GKS Community
From a GKS scholar to a bridge between Korea and Peru, Yanymee’s journey shows how one opportunity can grow into a lifelong connection. “GKS changed the direction of my life—and continues to connect me with Korea and the world.”
A Message to the GKS Community
