2026 GKS-G Orientation

The 2026 Global Korea Scholarship (GKS) Graduate Scholars Orientation was held from September 2 to 4, 2026, at the Daejeon ICC Hotel, welcoming newly selected GKS graduate scholars from around the world.

A total of 1,595 newly selected graduate scholars from 128 countries, along with representatives from 70 universities across Korea, participated in the three-day orientation. The event was particularly meaningful as it marked the first fully in-person orientation for all newly selected graduate scholars since 2019.

2026년 9월 2일부터 4일까지 대전 ICC호텔에서 2026년 정부초청 외국인 대학원 장학생 예비교육(오리엔테이션)이 개최되었다. 이번 오리엔테이션에는 128개국에서 새롭게 선발된 대학원 과정 GKS장학생 1,595명과 전국 70개 대학 관계자 등 약 1,720명이 참석했다.

특히 2019년 이후 7년 만에 신규 장학생 전원을 대상으로 대면 방식으로 진행되어 더욱 뜻깊은 시간이 되었다.

The orientation provided essential information to help scholars begin their academic journey and settle into life in Korea. Participants received guidance on academic regulations, Korean language training, scholarship benefits, visa and stay-related matters, and everyday life in Korea.

Safety was also an important part of the program. The Yuseong Police Station and Yuseong Fire Station provided sessions on crime prevention and responding to disasters and accidents, helping scholars better understand how to stay safe during their time in Korea.

3일간 진행된 오리엔테이션에서는 GKS 장학생들이 한국에서의 유학생활을 안정적으로 시작할 수 있도록 학사 지침, 한국어 연수, 장학금, 체류 및 생활 관련 주요 사항을 안내했다.

또한 대전 유성경찰서와 유성소방서가 함께한 범죄 피해 예방 및 재난·사고 대응 안전교육을 통해 한국에서 생활하며 알아두어야 할 안전수칙을 배우는 시간도 마련되었다.

One of the highlights of the program was a special lecture by senior GKS scholars, who shared their experiences and practical advice on studying and living in Korea. The orientation also provided opportunities for scholars from different countries to meet one another, exchange experiences, and build new friendships.

More than an introduction to the GKS program, the orientation served as a first gathering for a new generation of GKS scholars from around the world—a place where their journeys in Korea began and new connections were formed.

As the 2026 GKS graduate scholars begin their academic journeys in Korea, we hope they will make meaningful memories, build lasting connections, and one day return as proud members of the GKS Alumni community.

특히 선배 장학생 특강은 새롭게 GKS 여정을 시작하는 장학생들에게 한국 유학생활에 대한 실질적인 조언과 경험을 공유하는 시간으로 진행되었습니다.

다양한 국가에서 온 장학생들이 서로의 이야기를 나누며 새로운 친구와 인연을 만드는 교류의 시간도 가졌다.

이번 오리엔테이션은 단순한 장학 프로그램 안내를 넘어, 전 세계에서 모인 GKS 장학생들이 한국에서의 새로운 생활을 시작하고 서로 연결되는 첫 만남의 자리가 되었다.

앞으로 각자의 전공 분야에서 배움과 경험을 쌓아갈 2026 GKS 대학원 장학생들이 한국에서 의미 있는 시간을 보내고, 언젠가 GKS Alumni로 다시 만나 새로운 인연을 이어가기를 기대된다.
