2026 GKS-U Orientation Successfully Held

2026 GKS-U오리엔테이션 성황리 개최
On March 26, the National Institute for International Education (NIIED) successfully hosted the 2026 Global Korea Scholarship (GKS-U) Orientation for newly selected undergraduate scholars. The event was designed to support students in their transition to life in Korea and to enhance their understanding of the GKS program.

국립국제교육원은 지난 3월 26일, GKS(Global Korea Scholarship) 학부 과정 신입 장학생들을 대상 으로 오리엔테이션을 성공적으로 개최하였다. 이번 행사는 새롭게 한국에서의 유학 생활을 시작 하는 GKS-U 장학생들의 안정적인 정착과 프로그램에 대한 이해를 돕기 위해 마련되었다.

The orientation began with a warm welcome speech by President Han Sang Shin, who congratulated the scholars on their selection and encouraged them to make the most of their academic journey in Korea as future global leaders. This was followed by a representative speech from a newly admitted scholar, who expressed gratitude and shared aspirations for the upcoming academic experience.

본 행사는 국립국제교육원 한상신 원장님의 따뜻한 환영사로 막을 열었다. 장학생들에게 한국에서의 학업과 생활에 대한 기대를 전하며, 글로벌 인재로 성장해 나가길 바란다는 격려의 메시지를 전달하였다. 이어 신입생 대표의 인사말이 진행되어, 장학생으로 선발된 것에 대한 감사와 앞으로의 포부를 밝히며 참가자들의 공감을 이끌어냈다.

Participants were then introduced to the overall structure and key components of the GKS program, helping them gain a clear understanding of academic regulations and available support. In addition, sessions on crime prevention and disaster preparedness were conducted to provide essential safety information and practical guidance for living in Korea.

이후 GKS 프로그램 전반에 대한 소개가 이어져 장학생들이 향후 어학, 학위과정에 대한 중요 규정 그리고 지원 사항을 명확히 이해할 수 있는 시간을 가졌다. 더불어, 범죄예방교육과 재난대응교육을 통해 한국 생활 중 유의해야 할 안전 수칙과 위기 상황 대응 방법을 안내하여 실질적인 도움을 제공하였다.

One of the highlights of the event was a special lecture by a current GKS senior scholar, who shared valuable insights on academic management and adapting to life in Korea. The session offered practical advice and served as a source of motivation for the new scholars.

특히 선배 장학생 특강은 큰 호응을 얻었다.
선배 장학생은 자신의 경험을 바탕으로 학업 관리방법과 한국 생활 적응 팁을 공유하며, 신입 장학생들에게 실질적인 조언과 동기를 부여하였다.


The orientation concluded with recreational activities designed to promote interaction and teamwork among participants. Through these engaging activities, scholars had the opportunity to connect with one another and build a sense of community.

행사의 마지막은 참가자 간의 친목 도모를 위한 레크리에이션 활동으로 꾸며졌다. 다양한 프로그램을 통해 장학생들은 서로 소통하고 교류하며 유대감을 형성하는 뜻깊은 시간을 가졌다.
