Korean Government Scholarship Program
Purpose
To provide international students with opportunities to conduct advanced studies in undergraduate & graduate programs at higher educational institutions in the Republic of Korea in order to promote international exchanges in education and mutual friendship between countries.

※ Transferring between universities is not allowed. (e.g. Starting studies at the junior year is not allowed.)
Graduate course: Master's or Ph.D. courses at general graduate schools of Korean universities

Korea Language Training
Grantees are required to take Korean language training courses for 1 year at a language institution located on-campus of the domestic universities. (Those who have attained a Korean language fluency score higher than level 5 in TOPIK are exempt from this requirement.)

Qualifications
Both an applicant and his/her parents must be citizens of their country of origin.
※ Applicants should not hold Korean citizenship.

- Applicants should have adequate health, both mentally and physically, to stay in a foreign country for a long time.
- Should be under 25 years of age at the date of entrance. (Undergraduate)
- Should be under 40 years of age at the date of entrance. (Graduate)
- Have finished or be scheduled to finish formal education of all elementary, middle, high school courses by the date of arrival. (Undergraduate)

- Hold a Bachelor’s degree or a Master's degree by the date of arrival. (Graduate)
※ Applicants who have previously enrolled in a university in Korea are not eligible to apply to the KGSP program. Specifically, an applicant who has previously enrolled in any undergraduate program, master’s program, or doctoral program in Korea cannot apply for this program.

However, a KGSP scholar who has graduated can apply for this program again only via the embassy and only if he/she holds a TOPIK score of at least Level 4 and obtains another recommendation from the Korean Embassy of his/her respective country of origin (re-application is limited to one instance).

- Possess a grade point average (G.P.A.) above 80% from the last educational institution attended.
Procedure for the Scholarship Award
NIIED invites the Korean Embassy in the invited country or a domestic university to recommend potential candidates.
Applicants should submit all documents related to their scholarship application to the Korean Embassy in their country of residence to or the domestic university concerned.
The Korean Embassy or the domestic university sends proper candidates to NIIED with the required documents.
NIIED evaluates potential candidates and notifies the Korean Embassy of the final selected KGSP grantees.
Korean Government Support Program for Foreign Exchange Students
Purpose
To provide meaningful experiences for exchange students regarding Korean culture and education; to strengthen the global competence of Korean universities.
Support period
4 months (one term) or 10 months (two terms)

Purpose

a. Choose one of the 5 designated Korean universities* according to your major. You can choose only one of the five universities for your application. You are not allowed to apply to more than one university. Multiple applications will be disqualified during the final selection process.

Government Scholarship for Overseas Study
Purpose
To balance the development of studies by fostering world-class human resources in areas required for national strategic development, by providing financial support for fundamental fields of study.
Selection course support period
- Selection course: Master's and doctoral degree courses
- Support period: Scholarships for 2 to 3 years (USA, Canada, United Kingdom: 2 years, other countries: 3 years)
※ Scholarship includes all expenses required for study abroad including school expenses, living expenses, and insurance premiums.
※ Departure and return airfares are provided separately.

Requirements for application
Anyone with a GPA of 4.0 or higher among graduates from the equivalent of 4-year domestic university programs. Note that men must have finished their military service, and that there is no age limit.

- Other countries: $16,000 on average (Scholarship amount depends on local price conditions.)

Korea-Japan Government Scholarship for Undergraduate Science-Engineers
History
This program began as a follow-up project to “New Partnership for the 21st Century,” which was mutually agreed upon by Korea and Japan in October of 1998. The initial period lasted for 10 years, and the 2nd period was then extended for another 10 years through a second agreement between Korean and Japanese leaders in December of 2008.
Purpose
To foster excellent human resources in natural sciences and engineering, particularly those who have acquired high-tech capabilities, in order to establish a forward-looking relationship through the improvement of Korea-Japan relations
Dispatch course
Undergraduate course in the Natural Sciences and Engineering departments of Japan's national universities.
Support period
5 years (Preliminary education: 1 year, undergraduate courses: 4 years)

About 100 persons annually
Requirements for application
- Applicants must have a high-school diploma or the equivalent, be less than 19 years of age on March 1st of the selection year.
- Applicants must be recommended by their school principals or superintendents of education in their district/city/province.

Program Overview
This program is designed to provide students from Africa and Latin America with an in-depth academic training as well as an opportunity to experience Korean culture in order to nurture future leaders who will contribute to the development of global society.

我的韩国朋友们

自从2007年9月来到韩国,到现在已经有1年半的时间了。在这期间交了不少的朋友,其中也包括一些韩国人。在这里向大家介绍一下我的韩国朋友们,顺便跟中国的朋友们做一下比较。 首先从我们实验室的成员们开始说吧。怎么说他们也是我来这里之后相处时间最长的一帮人。我们实验室除了我都是男生,跟国内的工科大实验室差不多,但是20来个人当中就我一个人,这个好像是太少了吧。还好人都不错,教授人也不错, 不歧视女生,上次说再收一个女生,但是那个女生竟然没有被学校录取,我就白兴奋了一场。 韩国人的生活很忙碌,这种忙碌也反映到了学校的实验室,我能感觉到我们实验室的大部分学生比国内的学生更认真,更积极,更要求完美。有个师兄老是对我做的事情不满意,我当时就很恨他,但是后来想想那也算是我到现在这一步的一部分动力吧。虽然我对现在不怎么满意,但是觉得已经熬过了艰难的适应期。 实验室有个师兄特别聪明,人缘还特别好,当然脾气也特别好,简直是我的偶像,就是话有点多。他很喜欢教别人,我从他那里学了不少东西,他让我做的事情我很乐意地做,不感到一点的反感,我觉得在人生中就应该遇到这样的前辈,但是很可惜,他快要毕业了,我真希望实验室能有再多几个像他那样的好前辈。 有那么几个师兄,三十岁了还经常打打闹闹,像个小学生似的,有时候觉得他们很不像话,但是有时跟他们说话能感觉到其实他们想法还挺多的。他们当中有一个正准备美国留学,有一个已经去了美国。 我们实验室还有那么几个人在国内是很少能见到的。有个小子,家里是开面包公司的,钱应该也不少,但是特别省钱,别人都去食堂吃饭的时候,他就吃从家里带过来的饭。他是个硕士,我们实验室硕士的工资是一个月60万,有一次他跟我说他每个月都存100万,为以后的生活攒钱。当时我就很惊奇,原来他还做家教,学费也都是自己出。他为了热饭,把家里不用的微波炉都拿到实验室了,有时候还拿来一堆面包,以便宜的价钱卖给我们。他还有比他大四岁的女朋友,反正他的很多事情对我来说都难以理解。 还有一个师兄有点难以理解。称他师兄是因为他比我大,其实他入实验室比我晚,因为在原则上,韩国的男的都要去当兵,这种现象是很自然的。这个师兄很喜欢电脑,课题什么的都不怎么积极,但是只要是关于电脑的事情他就挺身而出,很积极。而且他很喜欢网络购物,我看几乎天天有他的东西到,大部分都是电脑部件,要么就是方便面之类的食物,要么就是漫画书。经常有人去他那里要吃的,当然不都是免费的了,方便面可是要钱的。他对吃的很了解,哪里有什么好吃的,问他都知道。上次去釜山学会的时候就是他带我们去吃猪肉汤饭的,还挺好吃呢。还说下回去济州岛的时候要带大家去吃米肠,别人只知道济州岛的桔子出名,没有听说过关于米肠的事情啊。 这就是我们实验室的一部分人,我在国内的时候,大家经常说韩国的男的很有风度,但是好像跟我想象的不太一样,在照顾女生方面,我看他们很多都不如中国的男生。我们实验室的大部分男生都喜欢吃零食,一部分还喜欢唠叨,这些可是让我有点难以接受的。当然从整体来说,大部分韩国男生是挺亲切的。是不是说实验室的人说的太多了,一句话我觉得他们都还行,我运气比较好,找到了比较好的实验室。 下面来说一下我的韩国女性朋友们。因为实验室就我一个女生,我经常出去见朋友,跟他们一起吃个饭,一起学习什么的。我认识的几个韩国女生都是在某个学英俱乐部认识的,而且他们都是基督教信徒。他们对待人很热情,很亲切,我第一面就喜欢上他们了。他们给我推荐了附近的一些特色美味,我们偶尔会找个时间一起出去吃,觉得跟他们在一起心里特别舒服。在国外生活就需要当地的朋友,要是有什么不明白的事情我都会问他们的,比如去哪里买衣服好啊,皮鞋一般在哪里买啊,什么品牌的化妆品比较实惠阿,头发哪里剪得好啊之类的,他们都会比我清楚很多。 其中有个女孩在中国生活了十多年,她的父母现在仍住在中国青岛,她是来这里念大学的,她的中文说得很好,还说上高中的时候,在写作比赛中拿过奖呢。我们好多东西能说到一块儿,她说她喜欢吃猪蹄,还有麻辣烫,给我说得那个馋呀,我也好久没有吃了,好想念这些中国的食物阿。韩国用的外来语挺多的,他们很多东西都直接用英语,而且有些是他们自己造出来的英语,估计美国人听了也不知道是什么意思。这些东西我都会问她的,因为她最清楚应该用什么汉语单词来解释那些词。 韩国也有一些捉摸不透的,不好接近的那种女生,我刚来韩国的时候,实验室里有个女生,所有的人都不喜欢她,说她很高傲,我跟她相处的时间并不长,但是能感觉到这个人不太好接近。我以前的舍友也是这样的,一开始觉得她挺难相处,总是觉得她在警戒我,有时候对我说的话还挑毛病什么的,但是后来还是好了很多。 我认识的韩国女生也不多,我觉得能用一句话来总结他们,凡是基督教徒都很亲切,好相处,至于不是基督教徒的,就需要再观察了。 这些就是我在韩国认识的,以及走的比较近的一些人,总之,我对我周围的韩国人还是比较满意的,教授也不错,实验室的人也还好,还有几个好的朋友,再加上我还有很多中国的好朋友呢,这里中国的留学生很多,只要你愿意都能找到好朋友。希望我写下的这点东西,能对大家有点帮助。

私は在日韓国人三世として日 本に生まれました。33年間ほぼ日本人と同様の教育と生活習慣の中で、 通名:谷川玲子として生きてきました。ハラボジ、ハルモ二や両親のおか げで幸いにも、在日韓国人一世や二世達の多くが経験した貧しさや差別を 味わうことはなく、本当に何不自由なく暮らして来られました。でも、そ れとは別に、私の身体の真ん中の所に、何か不自然なものと何か物足りな いものを感じていました。それは多分中学生の頃から少しずつ、そして大 学時代以降には、それらを解決する方法を探して行動に移すことができる ようになりました。
大学時代の親し い友人には自分の本名を明かしたし、大学卒業後には、自分探しの旅とし て中国に一年間滞在しました。その頃にはほぼ、とらわれていた自分の心 が解放されたような、どこにも属さない“フリーな自分“を感じることが できるようになっていました。そしてそれから約十年、心の通う上司に同 僚達と、本当に楽しみながら働くことができました。しかし、心の真ん中 で感じる、少しの、でも重要な空虚は消えませんでした。それはやはり、 私のルーツである韓半島、ハラボジハルモニが産まれ青年期までを過ごし た大地に対してのおもいでした。韓半島を見たい、そこに我が身を置いて ありのままに感じることを吸収したいという具体的な欲求でした。
そしてついに、来韓しました。韓国語能力初級1レベルの為、語学院に 通いながらアルバイトをする学生の身分としてですが、言葉はもちろんす れ違う人の姿や食生活、韓国人の特徴的な性質や気性、表現方法、そして 大地を構成する山や川、植物や天候等、特にハラボジやハルモニが過ごし た時代とほぼ変わらないだろう要素に特に興味を感じながら、私自身の心 の目で見るよう心がけながら今日までの約八ヶ月を過ごしました。多くを 感じた中で一番重要なことは、ここは私にとって外国ではなかったという ことです。
ほぼ日本人と同 様の生活様式で育ったので、特に始めの三ヶ月位は知らないことだらけで した。目に映るもの全てが“あたりまえ”ではなかったので、全てに興味 を引かれたし面白くてワクワクしました。その中で新しく知ることに対し て、自然体のまま積極的に吸収しようとする姿勢を感じ、我が身はここに つながっていたんだと、我ながら感心しました。
韓半島と日本列 島、日本にとっては一番近い外国であるため、世界の目線から見て、とて も似通った国であると、私も漠然と思っていました、しかしその目線から 見ると、意に反して、異なる事が多いことに驚きました。
岩肌の見える割 合なだらかな山が多い韓国、ほぼ山林で埋めつくされている山脈の多い日 本。
乾燥がちな韓 国、湿潤がちな日本。
目上の人に対し ての礼儀を重んじながらも、自己表現・感情表現が割合はっきりした韓 国、淡白な人間関係の割に作法を重んじ、表現は控えめに全体の調和を重 視する日本。
それぞれの大地 が織り成す要素と、そこで生まれた民族性はものすごく大きく関わってい る様に感じました。
ま た、元々興味を抱いていた事以外にも、感じざるを得なかったこととして は、今現在の韓国の姿と、その韓国における在日韓国人の姿でした。韓国 の近代史を知るにつれて、日本の高度経済成長期時代以上の急速な経済発 展を遂げ、今尚進行形である韓国では生活の豊かさが増す反面六十年前の 出来事がすでにひと昔前の話となり、特に二十代の若者の意識の中には、 祖国統一という夢がかなり薄れているようだと感じました。
日本 からただ韓半島を眺め、在日一世二世の苦労や彼らの思いだけを見聞きし てきた私は、韓半島に住む人々なら誰しも祖国統一の夢を抱き続けている ものと思っていました。
しか し、来韓八ヶ月で感じたこのことは、私の語学力不足と、人の心の奥を知 る難しさとで、まだ確信的ではないと思います。この先も出会っていく 様々な人達と話す機会を持ち、知っていきたいと思います。
ま た、私の日本での環境では、同じ在日韓国人との出会いが多くありません でした。私のように通名を使っている場合は全く気付かないし、民族学校 の生徒との交流などもほぼなかったからです。そして学生の身分としてソ ウルに来た私は、その中で特に自分と同じ在日韓国人への関心があり眺め てきました。主に十代後半から二十代前半の学生との出会いがほとんどの ためというのもあると思いますが、イメージしていたものとのギャップを 多く感じました。三世四世の若い世代は、私の境遇以上に豊かで守られた 環境に育った子供達が多く、在日韓国人としてのアイデンティティーを確 立するためにというよりは、何かもっと違う場所にいる様に感じました。 特にその年齢でここにいるということは、多く親の影響を受けていると言 えるでしょう。祖国に対しての思い、教育方針、そしてやはり金銭面での 余裕が大きいと思います。そういった中でいる若者たちと自分は、同じ在 日韓国人であっても、何も同じではないと思いました。
私は 先にも述べたように、過去を知り一世二世の生きた時代を想像して、自分 を探してきましたが、若い三世四世たちは、日本でも韓国でも、この豊か さが“あたりまえ“になった時代に、新しい発想の自分を創っていくよう です。それらがどの方向に向かっていくのかは、今の私には想像できませ ん。それは在日韓国人に関わらず、日本の若者にも韓国の若者に対しても 言えることでしょう。
私は この八ヶ月でこのようなことを感じ考えました。そして、ここでもっとチ ャレンジしたいと思うようになりました。ある程度の学業を終えた後には 仕事をし生活しながら、もっと深く知って行きたいと思っています。なぜ そこまでしたいのかと聞かれたらそれは、ここでの全てが、空気も水も自 分に関わりのある国だからです。

Hello! My name is Hieu and I am Vietnamese. I have just come to Korea in order to learn master degree at Medical school Chonnam National University. As a newcomer, studying and living at Hwasun hospital. I think I have better chances to view life in Korea which makes me from surprised to surprise.
About the weather, as the first time when I stepped out the airport gate in the middle of February, the scenes around me seemed to be dead. I had just seen trees without leaves, mountains to mountains and at that time, I am getting bored. However, two or three weeks later, the snow fell in Hwasun, scenes were cover with white color of snow. Wow, it was so great! It was the first time that I can touch the snow! It is so cool! And just one month later, everything around me have begun to wake up. Bubs were shooting and flowers have bloomed. The scenes are totally difference from everything I have seen! Sakura, rose, daisy…..from time to time they have bloomed in front of my view. It is totally awesome!
As I have told you, I am living in Hwasun, suburban of Gwangju city, where I can see fields of rice, potato, grapes, garlic, corn, bean, chili… Every day when I walk through them to my lab, I have feel like I am living in my country! I have seen hard famer plow on their fields, seed many kind of plants. From here, I can smell fresh rice in the morning and I can hear sound from frogs and insects in the evening. A sound and a smell of countryside are familiar to me and I usually call that “countryside flavor”.
People around me are so kind to me even though they know me is a foreigner. My lab mates are so kind; they have helped me to get familiar to living here. Or when I go to market, servants try to help me to find out what I want to buy, and they also explain clearly things I will buy. When I seem to be getting lost on bus, some nice people help me to find out the bus stop that I want to get off! On the whole, people around me are so nice. They are ready to help me I need.
Totally, I feel so great to be here, Korea, and I would like to say “thanks” to my Prof because he gave me a chance to study and live here. And to anybody who has read my writing that may non-sense to you but you should try to live at once. Living here, somehow, may be hard for you however I think you‘ll find interested thing here. Just try and enjoy it.

As a Korean adoptee, raised by Caucasian-American parents, I have had the opportunity to experience many unique and life-altering events. Growing up, the land known as South Korea was far away from me, both physically and emotionally. I had no ties as a child with South Korea, however, I often secretly wondered about the country, its people, and more importantly, my birth family. Thus,since I could not go to South Korea, I have always been interested in learning about other people’s cultures in America. I have incorporated my international passions into my education, employment, and future goals. As a NIIED scholar, I have found a way to expound all of my dreams, past, present, and future, into an opportunity that will allow me to continue achieving my dreams.
First, while in America, I was fortunate to receive a quality education which prepared and encouraged me to think globally. As a result, I have been attracted to the vast amount of cultures in America and would befriend and teach many non-native English speakers. Initially, I would be drawn to their cultural differences and want to help them while in America. Eventually, we would form a symbiotic relationship: they needed my help in English and I wanted to learn and experience their culture. Then, in high school, I became an ESL tutor through a nonprofit literacy group which taught English to immigrants. Next, in community college, I was able to volunteer in an ESL classroom, thereby, increasing my love and drive for teaching English to foreigners. Last, at myuniversity, I majored in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), taught ESL, and befriended many international students. Currently, I am enrolled at Korea University to learn Korean and obtain my MA degree in English Linguistics.
Second, I lived and worked in South Korea for all of last year as a hogwon teacher. This opportunity allowed me to obtain valuable teaching experience, meet other adoptees, and, more importantly, meet my birth family. First, I taught at an English hogwon for one (1) year and I enjoyed spending time with the children because, through them, I was able to learn, from a child’s perspective, more about South Korea. Second, last winter, I volunteered at an event for Korean adoptees from all over the world. It was eye-opening to see how many South Korean adoptees there are who have come back to the land of their birth. Each adoptee had a different story, outlook on their adoption, and experiences while in South Korea. Third, I was fortunate enough to meet my entire Korean family, which includes my mother, father, four (4) older sisters, one (1) younger brother, two (2) brothers-in-law, and a niece. It was truly an amazing experience and I hope to continue fostering our relationship.
Third, thanks to the NIIED scholarship program,I am currently enrolled at Korea University to learn Korean and obtain my Master’s degree. The NIIED scholarship program has provided me three (3) years of tuition-free education at Korea University. The first year will be taking intensive Korean language courses. The last two (2) years will be devoted to obtaining my Master’s degree in English Linguistics. During my ten (10) weeks at Korea University, I have been taking intensive Korean language classes in which I have made tremendous progress. I learn Korean for four (4) to six (6) hours each day, then return home to study independently for another three (3) hours. Furthermore, I have had the wonderful opportunity to befriend people from every continent which allows me to rekindle my love for different cultures. Therefore, NIIED has allowed me to follow my dreams of becoming immersed in my birth culture, making friends from all over the world, and continuing my education so that I can teach English to foreigners.
Last, I intend on using the NIIED scholarship as a springboard to become a university professor or researcher in the TESOL field. I would like to use my education and time spent as a NIIED scholar to positively influence the world, more specifically, non-native English speakers learning English as a second or foreign language. Ideally, I would like to live and work in South Korea withnon-native speakers and be able to teach them, not only English, but about my life as a Korean adoptee growing up in America. In addition, eventually, I would like to pass on my heritage to my children and encourage them to develop a relationship with South Korea.
In conclusion, although I grew up living in a country which was not my own, I took the education that was afforded to me and shared it with others by teaching English to foreigners. Now, I am the foreigner, living in the country in which I was born but not raised. My mission while in South Korea is to learn as much as I can from my birth country and take it with me in order to pass it along to others through my future students, children, and grandchildren. My life has been unique and I have had many experiences which shaped who I am today. I have had many exchanges with international citizens and would like tocontinue to have more. Overall, my year in South Korea has been amazing: teaching English to elementary school students, meeting other Korean adoptees, and meeting my birth family. I hope my next three (3) years as a NIIED scholar will be even better. My time here has taught me that I am proud to be a NIIED scholar and a Korean.

Life Experience in Korea

Taking Korean Air Line flight about 5 hours directed from Cambodia to Republic of Korea, I first arrived conveniently at Incheon international airport located 70 Km away from Seoul the capital of Korea in late August 2010. Landing safety, I was very shocked with the airport’s structures and decorations to which related my field of Civil Engineering closely. Taking on by bus moved forward to my destination about 4 hours in duration, I could see many modern and standard infrastructures along the way including transportations, high rise buildings, building condominiums, high ways, bridges, tunnels, super centers, houses and so on. I immediately recognized that Korea is the right place to further my study in field of construction. Then I arrived at Konyang University by which Korean’s administration division located in Nonsan, a city of Chungcheongnam-do Province. I was served enthusiastically by university staffs for dormitory stay and class of Korean language. Two days later as on 1st of September I started Korean language class with mix of foreign students mostly Chinese and Japanese. It is the fact that I am old in age but young in living life in Korea which gives me many experiences such as weather of four seasons, hot and spicy foods, shopping packaging, sharing room with Korean students in dormitory and studying Korean language. I have found my Lifein Korea is really interesting and challenging.
First of all, I would like to share my experience of getting new season. Because it was autumn the weather is same as one in Cambodia so that I easily adapt it. However nowadays winter is coming soon compels temperature sometimes fluctuates. To me, people used to live in a country consists of two seasons of spring and summer which the temperature is between 25 to 37 degrees Celsius, it is extremely cold some days. Certainly it surprises me when the temperature reaches to 0 degrees Celsius. To protect myself from this low temperature I was advised to have some necessary things such as winter clothes body lotion and have exercise schedule. Winter in Korea must be one of my new challenge and favorite season that I have never met.
I would like to keep my report goes on by describing Korean foods or, my personal calling, spicy foods. Living here I am not only face with weather but also foods. I cannot forget my first lunch which surprised me because I just ordered one but I got lots of side dishes. I try eating 김치,a well known in Korea but everywhere serves Korean cuisine, because I wanted to taste to find out why every meal time Korean people eat 김치. I cannot answer immediately I just found that it was a little bit pungent. My first unexpected Korean food was 된장찌개 the most pungent food that I ever eat. I wondered why Korean people eat such hot food like this, as Iknow eating many of hot foods affect stomach but I see Koreanpeople are healthy, beauty and handsome. Moreover, because it was autumn and I ate hot food I felt very abnormal both inside and outside of my body. Without knowing Korean language Iused to order foods that I could not eat at that time. It was when I did not know the name and kind of food and just try ordering. However the time passes day by day and Imust eat those of foods I can adapt Korean food very well because I know the name and taste of each food and not all Korean foods contain many spicy.I have found my favorite foods such as 비빔밥, 돈가스, 된장찌개 and 참치찌개.
Other thing to be shared is my funny of paying for plastic bag. Before I came to Korea I used to think that there must be have many differences such as weather, food, living style, culture and so on. But there is one thing that Ihave never thought ispackaging. I cannot forget a funny story of my first buying snacks. After seller checked bill I got only those snacks. I wanted a plastic bag but I could not speak this in Korean so I went nearby and pointed it. She understood my gesture and took one for me. I handed the bag and she said 20 won. I was shock with funny after giving her 20 won. I wonder why they sell such this small goods which is generally free when we buy goods that need it to carry in my country. After that day I used plastic bag very efficient that habit maybe the reason why plastic bag is not free.
I would like to further my description with my life of living in dormitory with Korean students. My dormitory life experience is one of much enjoyment and frustration.t is my first time of moving away from my parent’s home. Because of different culture, previous unknown, different habit especially that I could not speak Korean to my roommate made my living really not easy at the beginning. At our first meeting I could not tell him and he could understand what I wanted to say. We used computer anddictionary to translate word by word to reach the meaning and sometime we miss understood. But nowadays my roommate and I have recognized each other and we live happily. In addition life in dormitory is sometimes made me homesick. It is experience that joining outside or school activities and realizing environment has brought me a ways of feeling homesick. Moreover I have found my living in dormitory inconvenience when I am not allowed to cook and have my clothes ironed. If cooking is available I will I surely make Cambodia food and eat with my family through video chatting. But that is just thinking when cooking is not allowed is the dormitory rule.
Starting Korean language class is one of my unforgettable experiences. I study Korean language at Konyang University which is one of leading universities in Korea. I am here with helpful of university staffs, helper, teachers and friends. Most of problems have been solved by university staffs who work day and night, weekday and weekend. On the other hand, I met a Korean student coincidently and letter by arrangement of university he become my helper. It is my luck to know 이모찬 who warms me although I am far away from home. I cannot express my feeling about him by just writing. I just know this guy help me a lot. One day he told me "Lymei when you unhappy pleasecall to me because I understand your feeling as I use to be far away from home the same as you are now." It is not just the words but actions. This guy teaches me Korean language and tells me Korean culture and guides me through everything in Korean. I think that it is very helpful for foreign students to have helper. Similarly Ihave learned politeness and respectful culture of Korean expressed whenever and wherever in their living. Couple with my class, I learn Korean language uneasily because Cambodia language and Korean language are far similar however I am taught by pedagogy native Korean teacher who are very kind and helpful. My Korean is starting from nothing to a little and I hope it becomes better and better. I am in classroom with foreign students. Actually because of different languages we are difficult to communicate but it is good that we can practice ourlittle known Korean. We, also, share our cultures and customs and we found activities in class very friendly and actively. It is the university’s principle creation ofstudy tour activities to cultural sites which allow us to study about Korean culture and compare to ours. I get more interest on Korean culture while I found it has some part similarly to my cultures of my friends and mine. From my point of view the more we share about culture and more we get close. Therefore please teach and share me Koreanculture and other cultures and share you back mine and we will found something very fantastic.
All things mentioned above are my two months experience which can be shorted as protection from weather, recognition of hot and spicy food, paying of small plastic bag, life in dormitory and environment of Korean class. Without Korean language foreign students are very difficult to communicate; therefore we must enjoy study Korean both in and out class. Day by day my living is changing from good to better.

Для начала, расскажу немного о себе. То есть о том периоде моей жизни,который так или иначе связан с Кореей. Я русскоязычный к ореец. Родился я в Ташкенте в 1988 году. В Корею я п ереехал в 2002 году. Сначала я закончил старшую школу Кёнги в Сеуле . По нашему это 9,10,11 классы. Потом в 2005 году я поступил в Сеульский технологический институт, на факультет менеджемент. Сейчас я учусь на 4- том курсе. В первые мои дни в Корее, я чувствовал себя очень неловко. Новая культура, новые люди, новый стиль жизни, новые места, словом все вокруг для меня было новое. К тому же абсолютное незнание корейского языка з атрудняло мою адаптацию в Корее. Я не только не мог общаться с корейцами, но даже элементарно не мог спросить что- нибудь, когда я чего-то не знал. Начав изучение корейского языка, я постепенно стал понимать корейскую культуру. Первое, что я усвоил это то, что в Корее большое з начение придают возрасту человека. Младшие обращаются на уважительной форме речи к старшим. Старшие, наоборот обращаються на фамильярной форме к младшим. Но, когда корейцы видят чело века в первый раз, они всегда использу ют уважительную форму. А потом уже ,узнав про возраст либо меняют форму речи либо оставляют её такой же. Потом меня поразил удивительный п атриотизм корейцев. В год моего приезд а в Корее и Японии проходил Чемпионат Мира по Футболу 2002. До этого чемпионата Корея почт и ни разу не добивалась каких-то серьезных результатов. Несмотря на это, корейцы тысячами выходили на улицы, одев красные футболки-цвет формы сборной Кореи по футболу-чтобы поддержать свою команду. Я сам видел как корейцы воодушевленно болели, во время каждого матча сборной Кореи. Они кричали, радовались, распевали песни чтобы поддерж ать свою команду. Раньше я никогда не видел такой верности и любви к своей стране. Во многом благодаря болельшикам, Корея впервые в истории заняла 4- ое место на этом чемпионате. Также хочу отметить высшую степен ь восспитанности и цивильности корейцев. Здесь вы никогда не услышите ругательства с сво й адрес от каких нибудь хулиганов или пьяниц, здесь нет даже намека на нацизм, здесь у вас никогда не вытащат кошелёк из сумочк и, здесь можно со спокойной душой гулять по ночам, ничего не боясь, здесь есть все условия для приличной жизни. Корейцы очень вежливые, если кто-нибудь случайно на ступит вам на ногу или толкнет,он будет тысячу раз извиняться. К сожалению у нас в России этот человек скорее всего просто пройдет мимо, ничего не сказав. Сейчас Корея входит в десятку сам ых развитых стран мира.По моему мнени ю такого результата Корея добилась во многом благодаря люд ям.Благодаря их любви к родине,их самопожертвованию,их старательности,их гордос ти за свою родину,их желанию сделать свою родину самой лучшей,самой процве тающей,самой высокоразвитой страной в о всем мире. В заключение я хочу сказать всем русскоязычным корейцам: Корея - наша историческая родина и она достойна т ого, чтобы хотя бы раз её посетить .

Hong Ik University is the one of the most recognize art and design university in Korea and I didn’t know about that till I came here. Also this University area is famous of it street art exhibition, young artist artwork and its nightlife. It’s a very artistic place.
I was born in Tucuman, Argentina and I never thought that I’ll be studying Industrial Design in Korea. This is my 4 year living here in Seoul and my 3rd year in college.
I came to Korea the first time in 2005 and it took me time to adapt to this new culture, people and country. It was difficult the first time because I was by myself and I didn’t know much Korean but during this year I met new people in the Korean language institute and I felt more secure. It was a new experience in meeting people from other countries and still contact with some of my friends that also stayed in Korea study. Also by 2005 while I was preparing to apply for Hong Ik University I went to a drawing academy. I was shocked when I saw Korean students drawing skills. I though I’ll never able to get into that famous art school. Fortunately I got in and had the chance to study design abroad. Since I was young I always love and interest about arts and I couldn’t miss this opportunity.
In my first year of university (2006) I never expect such a high level of education and competition, I was surprised. I had some problem to get in to the rhythm of Korean students and follow the class. I think because I didn’t know much Korean it was a difficult start and sometimes I regret coming to Korea to study. It was difficult to adapt into this society for a person that was born in a province with few Koreans but I didn’t give up and continue doing my best.
After the hard freshman period of the university on my 2nd year it started to change and be interest more about this university life (Festival, seminar, Dongari).Although I had a lot of work to do during every semester I try to participate during the Hong Ik university festivals and events. This year I luckily get into a group (K.I.M.C.H.I), I didn’t know about the existence of an international member group till I found a poster at the campus. Since then I always looked to apply and get to this group. I love the people of KIMCHI, they are very friendly and really interest about other countries and culture. I’m glad I got into the group and get to know new Hong Ik students.
It’s a very compact university life with a lot of work but also fun. I think Korea is the only country that has university life is so moved. It’s a new and a unique experience because there such a lot of new things that may be in Argentina university life don’t have it.
On my sophomore year I got more interest in my major and the things I learned in this university. I get to know better my classmates, university facilities, workshops, seminars, etc. But sometimes I wish our university gave to foreigner students more opportunities to get scholarships, Korean class, or cultural event. Luckily this year we went to Jeonju. It was the first time our university prepared this cultural trip. The first thing I did was calling my friends and join to the trip. Although I went to Jeonju years ago it was different, this time I went with university people and it was the first trip with foreigner students of our university. I really enjoy it, met new people and had fun. It was a really nice cultural trip.
I think this study trip to Korea is a unique one and every moment for me is valuable. My mom and dad always supported me throughout but specially my dad because he also graduate from the same university and connect me better to this life. I appreciate the effort of my parents, classmates and friends to support me every time I need them both Korean and Argentine friends.
Now that I have 1 year left I want I’m getting closer to graduate in Hong Ik University. I hope everything learn here will help me to be a good designer and a better person. I think fear to know and open my own mind to another culture and people is a thing of the past. I’m really glad and lucky to be here in Korea and learn new things. It’s a great opportunity and experience that I have till now.
